Cupertino Historical Society

On May 2, 1966, the Cupertino Historical Society was founded as a non-profit organization by a group of 177 longtime residents concerned about the rapid growth in the area and its impact on the quickly vanishing Cupertino heritage. The long-term goal of the Society was to develop a museum to preserve the memorabilia that would be so vital in communicating the history to future generations. On March 30, 1990 the Society opened the Cupertino Historical Museum dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of the city's history. The Museum is a growing repository of artifacts, documents, photographs, vehicles and equipment of city residents, industries and businesses past and present. The vitality of the changing community is shown through the rotating exhibitions of the Museum. Through its exhibits the Museum attempts to develop and expand the learning opportunities that it offers to the ethnically diverse community of the City of Cupertino and its environs. In this effort, the Society continues to build partnerships with the local school districts to ensure that the history of Cupertino is offered as part of the educational curriculum. This philosophy is echoed in our mission statement with the expressed goal of keeping this heritage alive for all to understand and share. Volunteers from the Society display and discuss the significance of the artifacts from the museum collection by means of a Traveling Trunk, taking it regularly to schools, clubs and the community center. Membership meetings are held monthly featuring programs of local historical interest. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wed.-Sat. located in the Quinlan Center, 10185 N. Stelling Rd.
